Amsterdam Swing Lookout

ADAM Swing Lookout is a swing located at the top of the tallest building in Amsterdam. The Amsterdam Swing is one of the most talked-about attractions in the city. It sits on top of A’DAM LOOKOUT, a rooftop observation deck in Amsterdam Noord, across the water from Amsterdam Centraal Station. The official attraction calls the swing “Over the Edge,” and it swings riders at 100 meters high above the city.

city skyline
What a view!

This guide explains what the swing is, how to get there, what it costs, what to expect, and whether it is worth it. It also covers practical details like the address, ferry route, opening hours, and safety rules, so readers can plan a smooth visit. A’DAM LOOKOUT lists its visitor entrance at IJpromenade 4, 1031 KT Amsterdam, right on the waterfront near the Eye Filmmuseum.

What Is the Amsterdam Highest Swing at A’DAM LOOKOUT?

The Amsterdam swing is called Over the Edge. It is mounted on the roof of A’DAM LOOKOUT, a panoramic observation deck at the top of the A’DAM Tower in Amsterdam Noord. The swing sends riders back and forth over the edge of the building, with the city skyline below their feet.

What makes it special is not just the motion of the swing. It is the mix of height + open view + rooftop setting. In simple terms, the experience can be written like this:

That is why people remember it. A normal swing in a park moves back and forth close to the ground. This one does the same basic motion, but at 100 meters above Amsterdam, which changes the feeling completely.

Quick definition block

  • A’DAM LOOKOUT = the observation deck
  • Over the Edge = the rooftop swing
  • Amsterdam swing = the common visitor name for the same attraction
  • Amsterdam highest swing = how many travelers search for it online

The attraction is also more than just the swing. The official site lists a 360° sky deckindoor and outdoor viewing areas, a sky bar and restaurant, a free audio tour, and an Amsterdam VR Ride. That matters because many visitors come for the view first and then decide whether to add the swing.

That swing has really become a bucket list. You go to Amsterdam and you have a few things on your list. Red Light District, coffee shop, Anne Frank, Rijksmuseum, canal cruise. And the Amsterdam Swing.

Where Is A’DAM LOOKOUT and How Do You Get There?

A’DAM LOOKOUT is on the north side of the IJ river, across from Amsterdam Centraal Station. The visitor entrance is at IJpromenade 4, and the attraction says it is right next to the Eye Film Institute. This is useful because many first-time visitors think the swing is deep in Amsterdam Noord, but it is actually very close to the city center once you take the ferry.

The easiest route is the free ferry F3 to Buiksloterweg, which leaves from behind Centraal Station on the IJ-side. The official directions say the ferry takes about 2 minutes, runs 24/7, and is followed by a short walk along the waterfront. After you leave the ferry, turn left to the IJ-promenade, and the entrance is right in front of you.

Step-by-step route from Amsterdam Centraal

  1. Go to Amsterdam Centraal Station.
  2. Follow signs to the IJ-side.
  3. Take the free F3 Buiksloterweg ferry.
  4. Cross in about 2 minutes.
  5. Turn left onto the IJpromenade.
  6. Walk to A’DAM LOOKOUT, IJpromenade 4

By car

If you are driving, the attraction says to use Overhoeksplein 1 in your navigation and follow the route via Johan van HasseltwegHagendoornwegMeidoornweg, and Van der Pekbrug toward the A’DAM parking garage. That route is more useful for locals or day-trippers. For most tourists, the ferry is easier, cheaper, and faster.

A’DAM LOOKOUT Tickets, Swing Prices, and Combo Options

Ticket structure is important because many visitors assume the swing is included in the regular entrance price. The official FAQ says that the Over the Edge swing is never included in a standard entrance ticket and always needs an extra ticket. The FAQ lists the swing add-on price at €7.50 per person, while the ticket shop also offers combined packages such as LOOKOUT + Swing and LOOKOUT + Thrill

As of the current official ticket page, the main options shown include:

  • LOOKOUT Ticket from €18.50
  • LOOKOUT + Swing from €27.00
  • LOOKOUT + Thrill from €35.50
  • LOOKOUT + Amsterdam VR Ride from €27.00

Ticket table

Ticket typeFrom price
LOOKOUT Ticket€18.50
LOOKOUT + Swing€27.00
LOOKOUT + Thrill€35.50
Swing add-on€7.50

This setup makes sense because not every visitor wants the thrill ride. Some people only want the view, restaurant, and rooftop bar. Others want the full package with the swing and VR ride. For SEO and usefulness, this section should explain why the pricing is split: it lets different types of visitors choose the level of experience they want, instead of paying for extras they may skip.

What Else Can You Do at A’DAM LOOKOUT?

A’DAM LOOKOUT works well because it is not a one-ride attraction. The official site lists a full package: a 360° sky deckindoor and outdoor observation areas, a panorama restaurant and rooftop bar, a free audio tour, an interactive exhibition, the Amsterdam VR Ride, and even a free digital memory feature.

This makes the attraction more flexible. A family might come for the city view and skip the swing. A couple may combine the swing with drinks. A group of friends may choose the LOOKOUT + Thrill ticket and make a full activity out of it. That is also why the site offers different combo tickets, including options with drinks, food, or the revolving Moonrestaurant in the tower.

Things to do besides the swing

  • Enjoy the 360° sky deck
  • Visit the panorama bar and restaurant
  • Try the Amsterdam VR Ride
  • Use the interactive binoculars
  • Take the free audio tour
  • Enjoy the elevator light show

This matters for SEO because it answers a common support question: “Can I still enjoy A’DAM LOOKOUT if I do not do the swing?” The answer is yes. In fact, many visitors may enjoy the lookout mainly for the panoramic view over Amsterdam, with the swing as an optional extra.

My friend and I had a wonderful time at the This Is Holland experience and the swing on top of the building! Even on one of the windiest days of the year, we still cracked up as soon as the swing began.

The views were outstanding!! It was fun to go…

Eric Graham | 5 out 5 stars.

You won’t have a better view of Amsterdam anywhere else and the swings are a blast! It’s generally cold up there, but totally worth it!

Sasha Morgese | 5 out 5 stars.

Beautiful view, on the way up, very spectacular of the light show that is in the elevator. The swing remains an eternal memory. It was good to be there! 😊

Cinthia Heckler | 4 out of 5 stars.

It was very nice to ride the over-the-edge swing!

Just the 360° dinner was a pleasant experience but not good food. Fine dining has small portions but should be those you never forget, and it wasn’t like that. I recommend purchasing the tickets with the swing ONLY. Decide the rest over there.
